Description

The City of San Diego is hiring Bay and Ocean Lifeguard I candidates for contingent employment, primarily full-time during the summer and sometimes part-time during spring and fall. Candidates must apply before taking a performance test, self-schedule for the test, and pass a 500-meter swim in 10 minutes or less. Required qualifications include age 18 or older, a valid California Class C driver license, and three specified lifeguarding and emergency-medical certificates; an EMT certificate is highly desirable. Duties include guarding swimmers, performing rescues, administering first aid, enforcing beach regulations, maintaining equipment, operating rescue boats and emergency vehicles, and writing reports. Employment is conditional on successful screening, medical review, background checks, and other pre-employment processes.
