Description
The City of Lawrence is hiring a Master Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and complex repairs on vehicles, rolling stock, and non-rolling equipment. The role involves diagnosing and repairing gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel equipment; servicing hydraulic and electrical systems; maintaining repair records; and providing technical guidance to entry-level mechanics. Master Mechanic I requires a high school diploma or GED, specialized automotive or mechanical training, at least two years of progressively responsible experience, a valid Class B CDL with an Air Brake Endorsement, personal hand tools, and ASE Master Certification within 24 months. Master Mechanic II requires the same qualifications plus ASE Master Certification and Emergency Vehicle Technician Master Certification at appointment. The position includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave, retirement, and a $3,000 incentive paid in installments after 12, 24, and 36 months of continuous, satisfactory employment.
