Microsoft is hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide subject-matter expertise for hyperscale datacenter infrastructure projects. The role leads mechanical system design, specifications, drawings, network topology, and communication protocols; manages external design consultants; collaborates with technical governance, strategy, and operations teams; and drives design through construction administration and handover. Responsibilities include first-of-kind prototype delivery, factory witness testing, vendor interaction, and final commissioning, with domestic and international travel. Required qualifications include a mechanical engineering degree, professional engineering licensure, at least nine years of consulting engineering experience including six years as a lead engineer, and experience with complex mechanical systems and building automation. Preferred qualifications include extensive technical and datacenter design experience and liquid-cooled IT hardware cooling experience.
