Description
The Mechanical Inspector conducts field inspections of mechanical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; reviews permit applications and mechanical plans; identifies code violations and unsafe conditions; documents findings; provides technical guidance to contractors and building owners; responds to public inquiries; and assists with code-enforcement policies and special projects. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Michigan mechanical license in three of four categories with at least one year of experience in the specified disciplines, Act 407 registration, and a valid driver’s license. The starting rate is $32.18–$35.53, with pay increases dependent on service, advancement, and contractual factors.
