Description
Latch is hiring a full-time, in-person Member of Technical Staff - Virology to lead the development of a Virology benchmark for AI safety and dual-use research. The role involves designing technical approaches to assess AI misuse risks, evaluating safety guardrails, and building benchmarks for virology experiment design, protocol troubleshooting, viral genome and phenotypic data interpretation, bioinformatics tool evaluation, experimental workflow planning, feasibility assessment, and identification of unsafe or incomplete AI guidance. Candidates need a PhD in virology or a closely related field, substantial wet-lab virology experience, BSL-3 or high-containment BSL-2 laboratory experience, experience with large language models or AI-enabled biological design tools, and proficiency in Python and/or R.
