Sourcegraph is hiring a Staff ML and Agent Engineer for its Code Understanding team to lead production machine learning, evaluation, model selection, retrieval and context engineering, and multi-step agentic systems. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on work on model lifecycles, agent reliability, cost and latency optimization, and product-quality measurement, while mentoring teammates and influencing the team’s roadmap. It is an IC4 staff-level position with preferred Europe or North America locations, EST overlap of at least 20 hours per week, and starting base salaries of $176,000 USD in Zone 2, $132,000 USD in Zone 3, or $88,000 USD in Zone 4.
