Description
The Ophthalmic Assistant supports ophthalmologists or optometrists by providing basic direct patient care, collecting medical histories, administering eye medications under supervision, and performing ophthalmic pre-testing and diagnostic procedures such as visual acuity, tonometry, pachymetry, keratometry, visual fields, and fundus photography. The role also includes maintaining exam rooms and supplies, following HIPAA, OSHA, incident-reporting, training, and clinic conduct requirements, and delivering customer service. A high school diploma is required, along with CPR certification within 30 days and the ability to pass a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant examination within 18 months.
