Description
The Ophthalmic Technician performs initial patient assessments, collects and documents ophthalmic and systemic histories, verifies prescriptions, maintains records, and escorts and educates patients. The role includes vision testing, tonometry, applying ocular drops, preparing patients for imaging and ophthalmic procedures, and supporting patient flow in a surgical center. Advanced duties may include electronic medical record scribing and diagnostic imaging. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, patient-history and documentation experience, equipment maintenance skills, strong communication, and knowledge of laboratory hygiene and universal precautions; bilingual Spanish and English is highly desired. The role may require days, nights, weekends, and holidays and involves lifting up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
