Description
The School-Based Paraprofessional provides specialized health care and instructional support to students with exceptional needs in a school setting. Duties include medical procedures such as catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, ostomy care, suctioning, blood glucose monitoring, oxygen administration, ventilator support, medication administration, first aid, and medical equipment operation; individualized instruction; behavior management; classroom and activity supervision; transportation assistance; and documentation. The position typically works 6.5 hours per day on the student calendar, may require a valid California vocational nurse license and First Aid and CPR certification, and may require a driver's license and private transportation. Health and welfare benefits are earned for employees working 60 hours or more per two-week pay period.
