Description
The Pathologist’s Assistant performs anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of an attending pathologist, including gross dissection and description of tissue specimens, preparation of frozen-section and special-study specimens, autopsy examination, specimen photography, teaching, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and administrative support. The role requires a master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant training program, graduation from an ACGME-accredited Anatomic Pathology residency program, and current ASCP certification; physicians may have their ASCP certification waived if they hold an unrestricted District of Columbia medical license.
