Description
The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and finger-stick blood collection, verifies specimen identification and appropriateness, processes samples using aseptic technique, prepares laboratory paperwork, and coordinates with patients and other departments. The role also includes equipment maintenance, supply management, quality-control and proficiency-testing support, and participation in quality-assurance activities. A high school education or GED is required in California, while an associate or technical degree or equivalent education and experience is preferred; CPT I or II or an MLT license is required in California and preferred in Oregon and Hawaii.
