Montana State University is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to lead objectives for a newly funded DOE project developing an AI-driven Soil Functional Type framework. The role involves harmonizing global soil databases, applying unsupervised machine learning, mapping and validating soil functional types, supporting field sampling, and benchmarking Earth System Models with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The position requires a relevant PhD, experience with environmental or geospatial datasets and scientific programming, and includes an extended research residency in Richland, Washington, with occasional travel to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Montana field sites.
