Microsoft is hiring a Principal Applied Scientist to advance large-scale model post-training and adaptation for enterprise AI systems. The role combines algorithmic research with scalable infrastructure and tooling for training, fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, inference-time control, evaluation, debugging, privacy-preserving training, and secure deployment. The position is based at Microsoft’s Redmond campus with three days per week in the office and two days per week from home, and offers domestic relocation assistance. Candidates need a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate in a relevant field plus the corresponding years of related experience, and must pass Microsoft Cloud background checks.
