Description

Coherent Corp is seeking a Principal Laser Development Engineer to lead the design and optimization of ultrafast laser systems. This role involves providing technical leadership, conducting experimental investigations, developing innovative solutions, and guiding design decisions. The engineer will work on defining future Coherent products, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the entire product lifecycle from concept to market. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in solid-state and ultrafast laser design, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: Extensive practical experience designing and developing diode-pumped solid-state laser systems, including rod, slab or thin-disk architectures.
Demonstrable experience designing, building and characterising complex experimental laser systems and successfully translating these into commercial products.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong understanding of ultrafast laser physics, pulse generation and optimisation within bulk, fibre or hybrid laser systems.
Experience using optical and electronic diagnostic equipment including power meters, spectrometers, autocorrelators, oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers.
Experience using optical modelling software such as Zemax and/or developing numerical models using custom software.
Good understanding of electronic systems and control architectures.
Good understanding of high-stability optomechanics
Excellent analytical, experimental and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage multiple technical priorities while maintaining momentum across multiple concurrent development programmes.
A passion for solving challenging technical problems through practical engineering and scientific investigation.
Strong technical judgement supported by analytical thinking and data-driven decision making.
The ability to lead technical activities while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
A proactive approach with the ability to adapt quickly as project priorities evolve.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging effectively with engineers, management and customers.
