PayPal is hiring a Principal Engineer to serve as the technical authority for Venmo’s data platform infrastructure and performance engineering. The role owns technology vision, architecture, and hands-on engineering for mission-critical databases, data pipelines, messaging systems, caching infrastructure, and performance systems supporting real-time payment processing at massive scale. It is a deeply individual-contributor role with broad organizational influence, executive-level technical communication, and responsibility for mentoring engineers and advancing AI-first engineering practices. The role is based in San Jose or Austin and offers a hybrid work model.
