Description

Renesas is hiring a Principal FPGA Emulation & Prototyping Engineer to build and own FPGA-based emulation platforms for mixed-signal power ASICs before silicon. The role partners with RTL and DSP architects to adapt ASIC designs for FPGA, map them to FPGA resources for real-time or near-real-time performance, model analog and power stages, develop pre-silicon debug and visibility, and lead emulation methodology, tooling, and cross-team technical decisions. The position requires extensive FPGA design and implementation experience, expert RTL and FPGA implementation skills, hardware bring-up and debug experience, automation scripting, and technical leadership.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Required Previous Experiences: 10+ years of FPGA design and implementation experience, including ASIC/SoC prototyping or emulation
Experience adapting ASIC RTL for FPGA, including clock-gating, memory, reset, tri-state, and multi-clock/CDC handling
Experience with full FPGA implementation flows on Xilinx and Intel devices using Vivado and/or Quartus
Hardware bring-up and pre-silicon debug experience using in-system logic analysis and lab instrumentation
Proficiency in TCL and Python automation scripting
Technical leadership through mentoring, reviews, and cross-team decision-making
Preferred Qualifications: Real-time hardware-in-the-loop emulation and analog/mixed-signal power modeling
Digital power-conversion control and mixed-signal systems knowledge
FPGA DSP implementation and real-time DSP emulation
Commercial FPGA prototyping platform experience
Model-based design with Simulink or Xilinx System Generator
High-speed interface experience
ASIC design or tape-out exposure with DFT/scan considerations
Custom FPGA prototyping platform architecture and bring-up
Embedded firmware co-development and MATLAB or C/C++ experience
