Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for its AI Frameworks team to lead hands-on, end-to-end systems work across AI frameworks, performance engineering, benchmarking, compilers, runtimes, observability, and hardware platforms. The role defines technical vision and architecture, leads cross-stack investigations, establishes scalable measurement and automation, improves model onboarding and production reliability, and provides hands-on technical leadership and mentorship. Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience coding in C++, Python, or an equivalent language, along with expertise in GPU programming, parallelism, distributed inference, and LLM serving architectures. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 142,800–274,800 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
