Description

CBA is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and development of a next-generation personalization engine for digital banking. The role involves driving architectural direction, transitioning from segment-based to individual-based personalization models, and working hands-on with backend systems, APIs, and data integrations. The engineer will partner with various squads to align architecture, performance, and delivery, influencing engineering standards and mentoring junior staff.

Required Previous Experiences: Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for the personalisation engine and associated backend systems
Design and build scalable platforms powering intelligent signals and real-time personalisation
Work hands-on across backend systems, APIs, and data integrations in a high-scale environment
Partner with multiple squads to ensure alignment across architecture, performance, and delivery
Influence and uplift engineering standards, including testing, observability, and deployment practices
Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches beyond the current ecosystem
Mentor engineers and elevate technical capability across the team
Preferred Qualifications: Deep backend engineering expertise with strong architectural experience
Delivered large-scale, customer-facing platforms in complex environments
Experienced in distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven architecture
Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive solutions in greenfield or evolving environments
Strong learning agility, curiosity, and innovation mindset
Confidence to challenge thinking and influence senior stakeholders
Thrives in cross-functional teams and balances hands-on work with strategic leadership
Experience with personalisation, recommendation systems, or customer experience platforms is highly valued, but not essential.
