Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture and engineering of its Insider Risk platform. The role focuses on risk modeling, behavioral analytics, detections, monitoring, investigation workflows, case orchestration, and large-scale security data systems, while partnering with investigators, data scientists, security teams, and business stakeholders. Responsibilities include defining technical strategy, negotiating dependencies, maintaining privacy and compliance, and mentoring engineers. The role requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; equivalent experience may qualify. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, 8+ years of experience, or 12+ years of experience, plus cybersecurity and insider risk experience. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 142,800–274,800 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
