Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture and development of next-generation table, metadata, and indexing systems for Azure Storage. The role focuses on designing distributed-systems primitives such as partitioning, indexing, transactions, consistency, logging, replication, caching, and high-performance read and write paths, while solving challenges related to scale, latency, availability, reliability, and efficiency. The position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience, with additional experience in distributed storage, indexing, caching, consistency, and production-system optimization preferred. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 142,800 to USD 274,800 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
