Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture and evolution of the Azure Kubernetes Service control plane. The role focuses on distributed-systems components such as API servers, etcd, scheduling, controllers, networking, and control-plane lifecycle management, while improving availability, performance, scalability, security, reliability, observability, and automated recovery. The engineer will also lead cross-team technical initiatives, mentor engineers, influence upstream Kubernetes and Azure platform investments, and apply AI-assisted development and intelligent automation. The position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience with relevant programming languages, or equivalent experience.
