Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for its Purview Team to lead the design, development, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and live-site operations of critical data protection capabilities. The role owns complex, high-impact projects end to end, writes substantial production code, solves distributed-systems challenges, aligns cross-team engineering, and raises standards through code reviews, mentoring, and operational leadership. It requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least 8 years of technical engineering experience; preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, extensive cloud and distributed-systems experience, technical architecture leadership, secure policy and access-control systems, and generative AI experience. The role offers a U.S. base pay range of USD 165,600 to USD 296,400 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
