Description
Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for its Special Projects and Resources Team (SPARTANs) in M365 Core - Substrate. The role owns complex, high-visibility projects from problem framing through deployment, including distributed-service performance, reliability, cost, compliance, and resilience work. The engineer will build coalitions across partner teams, represent technical decisions to executives, mentor senior and principal engineers, and leave reusable patterns and documentation. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience; the role also requires Microsoft Cloud background-check eligibility. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, 8+ years of experience, or 12+ years of experience, along with architecture, modernization, and compliance experience. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 142,800–274,800 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
