Description
Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to define hardware strategy and performance architecture for Microsoft 365, Copilot, Agents, PAC, and Substrate workloads. The role leads hardware-software co-design, benchmarking, workload characterization, distributed-system performance investigations, emerging hardware evaluation, and AI-assisted performance engineering, while providing technical leadership across engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams. Candidates need a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least 8 years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; equivalent experience may qualify. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 165,600–296,400 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
