GitHub is hiring Principal Software Engineers across its Actions, Enterprise AI Platform, Enterprise Identity, Billing, Git Systems, and Database Infrastructure teams. The role involves architecting and delivering high-performance, scalable systems; leading technical execution and cross-functional initiatives; mentoring engineers; owning system quality and reliability; and participating in on-call rotations. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least six years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, additional years of experience, technical leadership, and experience with large-scale services, CI/CD, and scripting. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 142,800–274,800 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan areas.
