GitHub is hiring Principal Software Engineers across its Actions, Enterprise AI Platform, Enterprise Identity, Billing, Git Systems, and Database Infrastructure teams. The role involves architecting and delivering high-performance, scalable systems; leading technical execution and cross-functional strategy; mentoring engineers; owning reliability, security, and operational excellence; and designing APIs and large-scale services. Candidates need a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field plus at least six years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience; preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, extensive leadership and large-scale systems experience, and experience with Go, Ruby, Bash, or Python. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 165,600–296,400 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
