Description

Verto Health is hiring a Principal Software Engineer, Health Data & Interoperability to own the data architecture, canonical healthcare data model, semantic terminology service, and ingestion and ETL pipelines for HL7 v2, FHIR, claims, and third-party data. The role also leads code review standards, technical R&D, AI-assisted development tooling, and the reliability and operability of production data systems. It is remote for candidates anywhere in Canada, with quarterly in-person team days in Toronto, and offers a base salary of $165,000 to $190,000 CAD per year plus benefits.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Required Previous Experiences: 7+ years of software and data engineering experience
4+ years of hands-on production systems development and operation on a code-review team
Hands-on HL7 v2 and FHIR experience with real EHR and claims data, including ingestion design
Experience designing canonical data models, schemas, and ETL at scale across multiple source systems
Experience setting and holding a code review bar and leading through influence without direct reports
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tooling and building development harnesses
Cloud data platform experience, ideally Azure, and working knowledge of PHIPA, PIPEDA, or HIPAA
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with interface engines and healthcare standards
Experience with clinical terminologies or analytical modelling
Familiarity with the Canadian digital health landscape
