Description

Astera Labs is hiring a Firmware Product Application Engineer to support Leo CXL Smart Memory Controllers for hyperscale customers and OEM partners. The role combines firmware bring-up, validation, debugging, and customer issue resolution with technical guidance, documentation, and product improvement. Responsibilities include C and Python firmware development, DDR memory subsystem validation, test automation, and collaboration with firmware, hardware, systems, and product teams. The position is onsite in San Jose, California, and offers a base salary of $140,000 to $150,000.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
Required Previous Experiences: Embedded firmware development in RTOS environments using C
Python scripting, test automation, and diagnostic tooling
Firmware bring-up, debugging, and validation of memory or I/O subsystems on server platforms
Debugging and root-cause analysis in complex embedded systems
SoC interfaces including DDR, PCIe, and on-chip memory subsystems
Developer workflows including SCM, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
Technical writing for application notes and customer-facing documentation
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree
CXL knowledge, including memory expansion, pooling, and sharing
PCIe endpoint firmware and enumeration, MSI/MSI-X, SR-IOV, and error handling
DDR4 and DDR5 memory interface initialization, training, timing, and ECC/RAS
PCIe/CXL protocol analyzers, BERT, and lab debug equipment
BIOS/BMC/OS interactions with PCIe/CXL devices and MMIO/RAS
Server memory performance tuning
Customer-facing or field applications experience in a semiconductor or systems company
