Description

Long Beach City College is hiring a part-time lecturer for a three-unit Hip Hop Dance History course, Dance 19. The role is intended for an active scholar or scholar-practitioner with knowledge of Afro-diasporic and street dance forms, culturally responsive pedagogy, and curriculum development. The lecturer will teach an on-campus course covering popping, locking, breaking, rocking, turning, freestyle, krumping, and jooking, and must have experience teaching students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. The anticipated hire date is Fall 2026, with teaching responsibilities beginning in the spring semester of 2027.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Master’s degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with a dance emphasis; alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in one of those fields plus a master’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent qualification.
Required Previous Experiences: At least three years of teaching experience in Hip Hop Dance History lecture-based courses at a community college, UC system, California State University system, or conservatory.
Experience integrating new technologies into on-campus and online learning.
Experience teaching students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds with varying proficiency levels.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of student learning outcomes and assessment.
Experience with interdisciplinary and community engagement.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
