Google is hiring a Research Engineer for its Responsible Frontier AI Research team to design, prototype, scale, and evaluate engineering solutions for responsible AI. The role involves building robust infrastructure, conducting rigorous experiments, developing complex machine learning systems, establishing code and system-design best practices, and presenting trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders. Candidates need a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, 8 years of machine learning engineering or large-scale software systems experience, 3 years of Python experience, and 3 years with ML frameworks such as JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, AI safety experience, Python and C++ high-performance ML development, and experience with AI safety evaluation or mitigation.
