Description
The Scrap Yard Operator reports to scrap yard management and the melting supervisor and operates locomotives, switches railcars, and uses material-handling equipment and overhead cranes. The role supports scrap delivery and consumption through inspection, weighing, data entry, recordkeeping, reporting, and inventory management; manages equipment before use; and coordinates scrap grades for furnace production. It is a 24/7 outdoor shift requiring a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of industrial experience, physical ability to climb, bend, stand, and lift, mechanical aptitude, and successful written, interview, and hands-on assessments. Wages are $27.56–$29.80 per hour, with medical, dental, vision, dependent-care FSA, 401(k), insurance, and employee assistance benefits.
