Description

Odys Aviation is hiring a Senior Power Electronics Hardware Engineer to design and develop SiC-based propulsion power electronics for its Laila UAV and Alta hybrid-electric VTOL programs. The role covers motor drives, active rectifiers, DC/DC converters, schematic capture, PCB layout, magnetics, gate drive, protection, thermal management, EMI/EMC, component qualification, board bring-up, testing, and compliance deliverables. The engineer will work with controls and software teams to deliver aerospace-grade, high-power-density, efficient, manufacturable, and robust hardware.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related discipline
Required Previous Experiences: At least 5 years designing high-power motor drives or power converters from concept through hardware bring-up
Expertise in SiC MOSFET-based converter design, including switching behavior, gate drivers, dead time, parasitics, and high-voltage protection
Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout for high-power, high-voltage systems, including multilayer power boards through fabrication and assembly
Magnetics design experience with inductors, transformers, and common-mode chokes, including core and winding selection and loss analysis
Thermal management knowledge for power electronics, including conduction, convection, liquid-cooled architectures, and thermal simulation
EMI/EMC design and mitigation experience, including filters, layout practices, and pre-compliance testing
High-voltage bench work experience, including double-pulse testing, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, current probes, and electronic loads
Familiarity with PMSM drive topologies and control-system hardware requirements for FOC, sensorless operation, and flux-weakening
Familiarity with SPICE and converter-level simulation tools for device and circuit analysis
Preferred Qualifications: Aerospace or eVTOL powertrain experience and familiarity with FAA/EASA certification
DO-254 compliance experience and familiarity with DO-160, ARP4754B, FMEA/FTA, and requirements traceability
Experience designing converters for high-speed PMSMs, including multi-three-phase architectures, generator-mode operation, and active-rectifier topologies
Experience with high-power-density liquid-cooled converter assemblies and airframe cooling integration
Familiarity with battery-pack interfaces, pre-charge architectures, and contactor/HVIL design for high-voltage DC distribution
Experience taking power electronics hardware from prototype through DVT, qualification testing, and low-rate production
Working knowledge of CAN, CAN-FD, and Ethernet hardware interfaces, including isolation and signal integrity
