Description

Microsoft is hiring a Senior Security Engineer - Development for its Quantum Security & IT Operations team. The role focuses on AI-enabled SOC automation, security tooling, detection engineering, incident investigation and response, and operational resilience across network, infrastructure, and physical security services. Candidates need a doctorate or a master's degree with substantial experience in software development, large-scale computing, threat modeling, cybersecurity, anomaly detection, SIEM, or incident response, or equivalent experience. The position offers a typical U.S. base pay range of USD 119,800 to USD 234,700 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field; alternatively, a master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
Required Previous Experiences: 3+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, threat modeling, cybersecurity, anomaly detection, SOC detection, threat analytics, SIEM, IT, or operations incident response.
4+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, threat modeling, cybersecurity, anomaly detection, SOC detection, threat analytics, SIEM, IT, or operations incident response.
Preferred Qualifications: CISSP, CISA, CISM, SANS, or OSCP security certifications.
2+ years of programming experience in C++, C#, Python, Scala, or similar technologies.
Experience coordinating incidents and supporting live services, including investigation, containment, recovery, escalation, triage, root-cause analysis, stakeholder communication, and operational readiness.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel or an equivalent enterprise SIEM, including detection engineering, data onboarding, investigative analysis, and resolution of ambiguous, high-impact security issues.
Hands-on experience with security automation and AI-assisted operational workflows using PowerShell, Python, Logic Apps, or similar technologies.
Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, routing, VPNs, and network troubleshooting.
Experience working with SOC and NOC teams.
Experience collaborating with insider threat, investigations, legal, or trade compliance functions and exposure to dedicated insider threat platforms.
Experience designing, deploying, or evaluating agentic AI or LLM-based automation in a security operations context.
Experience or interest in protecting strategic research programs from sustained external targeting and familiarity with export control and government program environments.
