Description
Microsoft is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and development of Azure Compute Fleet capabilities that orchestrate Virtual Machine Scale Sets across multiple Azure regions. The role focuses on distributed control-plane services, capacity placement, scaling, failover, lifecycle management, fault isolation, control-plane reliability, asynchronous orchestration, and safe recovery from partial failures. The engineer will partner with Azure Compute, networking, capacity management, and application-platform teams, adopt AI and Agentic AI to improve engineering productivity, and serve as a Designated Responsible Individual for reliability and live-site mitigation. The role requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and at least four years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; equivalent experience is also accepted. The typical U.S. base pay range is USD 119,800 to USD 234,700 per year, with higher ranges for the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area.
