Description

WEX is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their North America Mobility organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting and realizing the next-generation Agentic AI Platform, focusing on autonomous AI agents, skills, MCP servers, and AI tools for advanced reasoning and workflow orchestration. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying robust backend services, creating REST and gRPC APIs, leading design decisions, writing extensive test automation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The engineer will also contribute to building agentic AI systems, implementing multi-agent architectures, and optimizing LLM-powered services.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 5–8 years of professional experience in software engineering
Hands-on experience building or contributing to AI/LLM-powered applications or agent-based systems
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in computer science or software engineering
8+ years of experience in software engineering
Python
event-driven architecture and tools like Kafka
card payments
cloud-native architecture (containerization using tools such as Docker and Kubernetes)
API security and PCI DSS compliance requirements
Ability to work on existing codebase, contribute improvements, and adapt to legacy systems’ constraints
Experience building AI skills & deploying AI solutions to production environments
Experience building production-grade AI agents or copilots
Familiarity with multi-agent systems and distributed AI architectures
vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, OpenSearch, Milvus)
Knowledge of AI evaluation techniques, safety practices, and responsible AI principles
