Wag! Group Co. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its backend engineering team in a full-time, in-person role five days per week in downtown Miami. The position owns the backend platform, including PHP and Laravel APIs, Python services, AWS infrastructure, Terraform, monitoring, incident response, and AI-powered agent workflows. Candidates need significant production backend experience, demonstrated experience with AI coding agents, proficiency in PHP and Python, and experience with event-driven architectures, containerized services, databases, and deployment tools. Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: Significant experience building and operating scalable backend systems in production
Experience building software with AI coding agents
Proficiency in PHP and working proficiency in Python
Experience with event-driven and queue-based architectures using AWS SQS
Experience running containerized services in production on ECS
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with secrets management using HashiCorp Vault or AWS Parameter Store
Experience with large-scale static analysis and automated refactoring

Strong knowledge of database design and performance optimization with MySQL and Redis
