Description

Bloomberg is hiring a Senior Software Engineer - BQL Reliability Engineering in New York to build software and platform capabilities that improve the reliability, resilience, and transparency of Bloomberg Query Language and its dependent services. The role focuses on automated diagnostics, incident detection and resolution, observability, platform resilience, load and failure testing, and reliability tooling. Candidates need at least four years of relevant software or reliability engineering experience, production distributed-systems experience, strong analytical skills, and a degree in a technical field. The salary range is 160,000–240,000 USD annually plus benefits and bonus.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
Required Previous Experiences: At least 4 years of experience in software engineering, reliability engineering, platform engineering, or a related technical role
Experience with an object-oriented programming language such as C/C++, Python, or Java
Experience developing or operating distributed applications in production on Linux/UNIX systems
Experience improving the performance, availability, resilience, or scalability of mid- to large-scale systems
Experience with production software delivery, deployment, release management, testing, and safe changes to distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications: Experience building developer platforms, reliability tooling, observability systems, or engineering infrastructure
Experience with metrics, logs, distributed traces, time-series data, and production telemetry
Experience defining and applying SLIs, SLOs, and other quantitative reliability measures
Experience designing and executing load, stress, failure, and canary tests
Experience applying statistical methods to understand system behavior and solve engineering problems
Experience querying and analyzing large-scale datasets in enterprise data environments
Experience designing, executing, and analyzing A/B tests and controlled experiments
Experience operating in regulated or highly controlled environments
