Description

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate cloud services and gRPC/Protobuf APIs for vehicle, mobile app, and cloud communication. The role focuses on distributed-systems reliability, NATS messaging, Kubernetes, GitOps/Argo CD, infrastructure as code, production observability, networking, load balancing, and integration and load testing. Candidates need at least five years of software engineering experience in distributed systems, high-scale backend services, or streaming and messaging platforms, with Go as the primary language and occasional Java and TypeScript work.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on distributed systems, high-scale backend services, or streaming and messaging platforms.
Practical experience building and operating production services, including observability and troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on experience with high-throughput messaging systems such as NATS, Kafka, or MQTT.
Experience with Kubernetes and owning service deployments; familiarity with GitOps/Argo CD and infrastructure as code.
Strong knowledge of HTTP/2, TCP, L4/L7 load balancing and experience operating gRPC services in production.
Familiarity with mTLS, certificates, service identity, secure transport and authentication patterns.
Track record of maintaining or making contributions to established open-source projects.
