Description

Smartsheet is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I for its Observability Engineering team to build and operate an internal observability platform across multiple regions. The role owns instrumentation libraries, telemetry pipelines, SLO and alerting systems, dashboards, integrations with CI/CD and incident systems, automated remediation, platform adoption, documentation, and on-call incident improvement. Candidates need at least five years of experience building distributed systems or observability infrastructure, strong backend programming experience, OpenTelemetry and AWS/Kubernetes expertise, and a computer science or engineering degree. The role offers a US base salary of $161,250–$193,750, medical, vision, and dental coverage, and teleworking options from registered locations in the United States.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Computer Science degree, Engineering degree, or equivalent practical experience
Required Previous Experiences: 5+ years building and operating scalable distributed systems, platform services, or observability infrastructure
Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or an internal developer platform
Hands-on experience with metrics, logs, and distributed tracing on a major observability platform
Practical OpenTelemetry experience with collectors, instrumentation, semantic conventions, and context propagation
Experience building high-volume data or telemetry pipelines
REST API and integration engineering experience with OAuth, webhooks, and event-driven architectures
Advanced AWS and Kubernetes expertise with Terraform and GitOps workflows
