Coinbase is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Exchange team to set architectural direction for the matching engine, order management, market data, and unified trading systems. The role leads ultra-low-latency, event-sourced trading systems across cloud and colocated environments, drives cross-team technical alignment, establishes quality and operational standards, maintains significant hands-on contribution, and mentors L5-L6 engineers. Candidates need 10+ years of software engineering experience, significant production trading or exchange-system ownership, expertise in low-latency distributed systems and a backend language such as Java, C++, or Go, and experience with latency-sensitive systems in on-prem, colocated, and cloud environments.
