Description

The Shop Mechanic at Whitaker Construction diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs various mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on trucks aged ten years and older, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, and Mack models. This role involves engine, emissions, and electronic system repairs to ensure performance and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate possesses experience with modern truck technologies, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Vocational training is strongly desired. Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
Required Previous Experiences: 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Class A or Class B CDL preferred.
Valid Medical Card per Department of Transportation (DOT) standard.
Capable of managing and maintaining own tools and parts.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment safely to diagnose, adjust, and repair malfunctions.
Ability to read, analyze, and comprehend schematics, technical manuals, technical drawings, etc.
Strong attention to detail.
Proficient utilizing computers including Microsoft products, Smartphone, and iPad.
Willingness to learn from others.
Strong sense of personal responsibility.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Reliable transportation to get to and from work.
