Description

SLAC is hiring a Software Developer for its Experiment Control Systems Engineering and Design team. The role develops and maintains Python and C/C++ applications and automation scripts that control complex scientific instrumentation, including EPICS-based control systems, and supports data acquisition, troubleshooting, software review, and engineering processes. The position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience, along with strong Python, PyQt, C/C++, Git, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
Required Previous Experiences: Five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience
Strong proficiency in Python and Python GUI development with PyQt
Experience developing and maintaining C/C++ code
Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
End-to-end ownership of tasks, including project management, scheduling, and stakeholder management
Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams or environments
Preferred Qualifications: EPICS development experience
Familiarity with EPICS Channel Access and PV Access protocols
Experience in a scientific, research, or academic environment
