McMaster-Carr is hiring a Software Engineer to develop and scale high-scale production software for its e-commerce platform and operations. The role focuses on improving product search and navigation, building and scaling an AI assistant, and improving fulfillment systems. Responsibilities include designing and implementing features, researching tradeoffs, participating in code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across teams. The position requires experience with live projects or deployed applications, proficiency in a compiled language such as C#, Java, C++, or Rust, and strong software design and systems-thinking skills. Compensation is generally $185,000 to $230,000 in total cash, with profit sharing, a signing bonus, and a relocation stipend; the position does not offer work authorization sponsorship.
