Discord is hiring a Backend Engineer for its Realtime Infrastructure team to build and operate large-scale, reliable distributed systems that support text chat and user-session updates. The role involves collaborating with product teams, maintaining critical tier-0 services, writing code, managing infrastructure, and improving system reliability and performance. Candidates need at least two years of backend systems experience, distributed-systems expertise, and experience with critical services; Elixir, Rust, cloud, DevOps, and open-source experience are bonuses. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and offers a US base salary of $180,000 to $220,000 plus equity and benefits.
