Box is hiring a Software Engineer III (Backend) for its Automate team to design and develop backend services for the workflow automation engine. The role focuses on Java, workflow-graph algorithms, meta-language development, scalable systems, database and caching design, asynchronous processing, code reviews, mentoring, and on-call support. Candidates need at least three years of professional software development experience, backend expertise, strong Java and computer-science foundations, and experience with scalable systems; workflow-engine, cloud, containerization, and DevOps experience are preferred. The role requires working from an assigned office at least three days per week.
