Description

Normal is hiring a Terminal Application Engineer to own the Normal CLI, an interactive terminal application used by semiconductor verification engineers. The role focuses on information architecture, cross-platform behavior, the local session client, event-driven streaming, error handling, product standards, and architecture for a large Python and Textual application. The engineer will also maintain snapshot and visual-regression tests, packaging, installation, and self-update systems, while collaborating with researchers and domain experts.

Additional Information

Required Previous Experiences: 4+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building and maintaining an interactive terminal application, TUI, or comparable local client.
Experience improving an existing codebase without breaking existing functionality.
Experience with event-driven or asynchronous applications involving streaming, processes, cancellation, concurrency, persistence, and failure recovery.
Experience testing interactive software and determining which behaviors to formalize.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with terminal UI frameworks such as Textual, Rich, prompt-toolkit, curses, Bubble Tea, Ratatui, or Ink.
Experience with PTYs, terminal emulation, multiplexers, or remote shell and host abstractions.
Experience designing human-in-the-loop experiences for coding agents, AI tools, or long-running automated systems.
Experience with cross-platform packaging, self-update systems, internationalization, IME support, or visual regression testing.
Experience with Electron or another desktop framework, particularly embedding a CLI, TUI, or agent runtime.
Experience with semiconductor, EDA, or hardware engineering workflows.
