Description

Cisco is hiring a Software Engineer for its Site Reliability Engineering – Security team to set technical direction for secure infrastructure and developer platforms. The role focuses on designing secure-by-default systems, hardening Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, observability, secrets, PKI, and IAM, driving Zero Trust, leading cross-team incident response, and automating security and compliance. Candidates need a bachelor's degree plus 12 years of related experience or equivalent education and experience, along with extensive cloud, Python/Go automation, SRE, and security production experience.

Additional Information

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree plus 12 years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 8 years, or PhD plus 5 years.
Required Previous Experiences: 5+ years of hands-on production experience operating and scaling at least one major cloud, including cloud security posture ownership.
3+ years building production automation and tooling in Python and/or Go for security use cases.
5+ years applying SRE practices in production, including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident command, and post-mortems.
5+ years applying security fundamentals in production environments, including threat modeling, secure-by-default architecture, least-privilege and workload identity, secrets and certificate lifecycle management, and vulnerability management.
Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on production Kubernetes security experience, including RBAC, NetworkPolicies, Pod Security Standards, admission controllers, image signing, control-plane hardening, and service mesh mTLS.
Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform, policy-as-code, GitOps, and CI/CD security gates.
Security observability and runtime detection tooling integrated with Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
Experience securing AI/ML workloads and MLOps pipelines, including model security and AI/LLM security automation.
Security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or AWS Certified Security – Specialty, along with communication, influence, and cross-organizational security decision-making experience.
