Amazon is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to build and lead Amazon Q, an intelligent assistant combining generative AI with AWS context, retrieval, tools, and actions. The role focuses on designing highly available, scalable, secure, and low-latency distributed systems; solving production AI challenges such as contextual grounding, agent orchestration, tool execution, retrieval, security, latency, reliability, and AI-quality evaluation; owning projects end to end; defining technical direction; and mentoring engineers. The position requires at least five years of professional software development experience, programming experience, design or architecture leadership, and mentorship or engineering-team leadership experience, and is based in Arlington, Virginia, United States.
