PayPal is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for Venmo's Consumer Financial Services platform. The role owns backend platform features, authentication, authorization, verification, fraud risk, distributed systems, security, performance, availability, and cross-team technical strategy. Responsibilities include setting engineering standards, leading architectural reviews, mentoring senior engineers, collaborating with product, legal, compliance, and security teams, and supporting incidents. The position requires extensive backend and software engineering experience, strong Python and API expertise, cloud and infrastructure experience, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience. It is based in San Jose or Austin with a hybrid work model and annual base pay ranging from $178,500 to $291,500 depending on location.
