Robots & Pencils is hiring a Staff AI Engineer to lead the end-to-end design, delivery, architecture, and technical leadership of AI/ML systems. The role owns scalable ML platforms and infrastructure, complex agentic systems, LLM application evaluation and observability, responsible AI practices, RAG pipelines, API integrations, and cost optimization. The engineer will also mentor junior and mid-level engineers and partner with product, engineering, and leadership on AI strategy. The position requires 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years focused on production AI/ML systems and generative AI development, along with expertise in Python, AWS, AI frameworks, Docker, Kubernetes, and AI-forward coding tools. The salary range is CAD 176,612–243,680.
